Like everyone else I have also had my share of bad things that happened to me and while in the midst of the heat of the fire, the way it impacts me does depend on the way I am thinking. The Bible teaches that all evil is within.
Mark 7:21: “For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man unclean.”
These words of Jesus describe the same things Paul’s describes as the works of the flesh in Gal 5:19.
Thoughts like these that are above make us unclean— thoughts like these come into the heart.
The heart is the very place we have given to God. For this reason we guard the heart. (Prov 4;23)
When bad things happen to us we guard the heart from the works of the flesh.
Yes bad things are within but at the same time it is within other people. Most other people do not know how to guard the heart, or against what, and this is the reason for chaos in the world.
Like minded people stick together and caused the great wars. Hitler did not have a preacher to teach him that he was only being led by the flesh. It was not a demon that came somewhere out of the sky to cause the slaughter of so many innocent people.
A few weeks ago some of the farmers of Senekal gathered to demonstrate a protest against farm murders and then allowed the fleshly mind to get out of control.
The graces of God that is within us was not demonstrated but rather that of the flesh. They were like minded people in a group without a preacher to teach the truth of the message of the Bible which is love joy peace and all of Gal 5:22. To live by the flesh is death but to live by the spirit is life.
To blame the Devil is not correct, we decide what thoughts we tolerate in our minds, we are to self control and do so by disciplining our minds.
Felix questioned Paul and asked “Why do the Jews persecute you?” Paul said, because he was preaching righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, and Felix was afraid. Acts 24:25. God expects us to self-control and live right.
If we do not guard the heart we are open to sickness and also poverty. God does not bless the fleshly mind. Why should He ! The very least we should do is love Him and our neighbor as ourselves.
The way we love each other is to help each other guard the heart. It’s not difficult to do because it should be the upper most thing in our minds. When you are self controlling in traffic you are preaching the Gospel. Now you can expect to be blessed. Tel your family and friends about this and how you are preaching the gospel by practicing self control in every area of your life, then ask them to help you guard your heart in this way.
THIS IS THE WAY WE LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR! When you haven’t managed to do it, simply apologize to the Lord and tell Him that you will fix this state of the heart by using the cross and get ready to be blessed.
